In 2019, an Italian research team described a previously unknown cannabinoid of the hemp plant for the first time: THCP. Here you can read what is behind it and why buying THCP has no longer been possible in Germany since 2024.
What is THCP?
THCP stands for tetrahydrocannabiphorol and is a naturally occurring cannabinoid of the hemp plant. Chemically, it differs from other cannabinoids through its side chain with seven carbon atoms. In the plant itself, THCP occurs only in traces. For commercial products, it was therefore produced synthetically and applied to carrier products.
THCP products: which forms were there?
THCP products were available on the market in three formats, all based on the same principle: carrier product plus THCP extract.
- THCP flowers: hemp flowers to which THCP was applied.
- THCP Vapes: disposable pens with pre-filled THCP liquid.
- THCP hash: the classic, pressed format.
Legal situation: THCP in Germany
Since June 2024, THCP has been listed in the annex to the German New Psychoactive Substances Act (NpSG). HHC was added at the same time. Trade in THCP has been prohibited in Germany since then. Buying THCP is therefore no longer an option in Germany, and I LOVE POT does not carry any THCP products.
