Today, there are vape pens with a wide range of ingredients: CBD, HHZ, or completely without active ingredients. The shape of the vape pen stays the same, but the contents make the difference.
Important: A Vape Pen works without combustion. The extract is heated and inhaled as vapor, so there’s no smoke.
How does a Vape Pen work?
Inside a vape pen, three components work together: a battery, a heating element, and a chamber with the extract. When you draw on the mouthpiece, it activates a sensor that sends power to the heating element. The extract is brought up to temperature and vaporizes. The vapor is then inhaled directly. The whole process takes just a split second and works without pressing any buttons—just draw and you’re set.

- Heating element (coil): A small metal part that generates heat. The quality of the coil directly affects how cleanly and evenly the extract is vaporized.

Vape Pen or e-cigarette – what’s the difference?
The terms are often mixed up, but they describe different products. A classic e-cigarette is made for nicotine liquids, usually has a bigger tank, and is aimed at people who want to replace smoking. A Vape Pen is slimmer, usually designed for extracts instead of liquids, and is more common in the cannabis world.
The practical difference shows up in everyday use: e-cigarettes are recharged, refilled, and individually adjusted. A Vape Pen in the format we offer at Ilove Pot comes pre-filled and is ready to use right away. No settings, no cartridges, no charging. Just use it.
What kinds of vape pens are there?
At Ilove Pot, we offer two lines: CBD vape pens and HHZ Vape Pens, both with 95% extract concentration. There’s also the Pre-Heat Vape Pen as an accessory. These are the products we work with every day and can really speak about.
- CBD Vape Pen: Contains cannabidiol as the active ingredient, no nicotine, no THC. Legal in Germany, available in 1ml. For All who want a gentle introduction.
- HHZ Vape Pen: Contains HHZ (hexahydrocannabiziol) with 95% concentration. Available in 1ml and 2ml. A noticeably more intense experience than CBD, for users with some experience.
- Pre-Heat Vape Pen: Not a standalone product with extract, but a battery with a preheat function. It warms up thick extracts before drawing and ensures a smoother draw.
Elsewhere on the market, there are also refillable systems with liquids as well as nicotine-containing Vapes. We don’t carry those.
What’s inside a Vape Pen?
The question about ingredients is one of the most important you should ask before buying. With cheap no-name products, the answer is often vague. With our pens, it’s different: All extracts come from controlled production, the concentration is 95%, and there are analysis certificates to go with them.
Basically, a Vape Pen extract consists of the active ingredient itself and natural terpenes that give each strain its flavor and profile. With liquid-based systems, carrier substances like PG or VG are added—but not in our extract pens.
- Extract (CBD or HHZ): The main ingredient. In our pens, it makes up 95% of the contents. The rest is Terpene and natural flavors, no synthetic additives.
- Terpene: Natural aromatic substances from the hemp plant that determine the flavor. Each variety has its own profile: Mango fruity-sweet, Amnesia spicy-earthy, Pink Berry berry-like, Northern Lights resinous, Blueberry soft and sweet.
- No PG/VG carriers: Unlike liquid systems, our extract pens contain no propylene glycol or vegetable glycerin. The extract is concentrated and undiluted.
Note: CBD Vape Pen and HHZ Vape Pen are two different products with different active ingredients and effect profiles. They should not be considered the same.
CBD Vape Pen – what exactly is it?
Cannabidiol, or CBD for short, is a Cannabinoid from the hemp plant without psychoactive effects. A CBD Vape Pen contains this active ingredient in concentrated form. In Berlin, people often ask us if CBD “does anything”—the honest answer: it’s not THC. If you’re looking for a legal product without intoxication, a CBD Vape Pen is a good choice.
- Active ingredient: Cannabidiol (CBD), derived from the hemp plant. No THC, no psychoactive effect, legal in Germany.
- Absorption method: Through the lungs into the bloodstream. Considered a faster absorption route compared to oral products like CBD oil.

HHZ Vape Pen – what sets it apart from CBD?
HHZ stands for hexahydrocannabiziol. Structurally, it is related to CBD, but it is produced through a different process: the double bonds in the CBD molecule are broken by hydrogenation and saturated with hydrogen atoms. The result is a more stable molecule with a noticeably more intense effect profile. If you try a HHZ Vape Pen for the first time and only knew CBD before, you'll notice the difference right away.

Buying Vape Pen – what matters?
What actually makes for real quality in vape pens and what is just junk? The answer always depends on the product. If you just buy the cheapest Sale on some platform, you'll quickly end up with products that have no proof of origin and unclear ingredients.
With vape pens containing Cannabinoid extracts, transparency is the most important criterion. A certificate of analysis (COA) isn't just a nice extra, it's the minimum standard. Without it, nobody can say for sure what's actually in the pen.
- Check the COA: The certificate of analysis confirms the active ingredient content and rules out contaminants. For CBD and HHZ Vape Pens, this should be a given. With us, it is.
- Understand concentration: 95% extract means that the majority of the pen's content is the active ingredient. Cheaper pens are often heavily diluted and deliver a much weaker result.
