It is easy to buy prerolls. Finding the right preroll is more difficult. The selection is growing, the terms keep changing, and anyone who looks into a shop for the first time quickly faces a lot of questions. What is actually inside? What is the difference between HHZ and CBD? And why do some products cost twice as much as others? This guide looks at these questions.
What are prerolls?
The term comes from English ("pre-rolled") and describes a product that is delivered already rolled, filled and closed. You need no paper, no filter and no manual skill. Compared with loose flowers, this is above all practical.
In principle, prerolls hardly differ in their basic structure. A preroll consists of
- an outer wrap made of paper or a plant leaf,
- a filter at the mouth end
- the actual filling material.
What differs clearly is exactly this filling material. And this is where the really relevant part of the purchase decision begins.
Important: Prerolls are ready-prepared products. Depending on the variant, they have a different composition.
HHZ prerolls or CBD prerolls?
In our shop, HHZ prerolls contain a 40 % HHZ blend. CBD prerolls consist of 100 % CBD flowers, without tobacco and without additives. Both lines are clearly separated and labelled in the shop.

Which types of prerolls are there?
The market is roughly divided into three product groups that differ in their contents:

What is inside a preroll?
Every preroll has three components: the outer paper, a filter and the filling material. That sounds simple, but in practice it makes a big difference in quality. For the paper there are unbleached, bleached, hemp paper and leaf variants. For the filter, the range goes from simple cardboard filters to activated carbon filters. The filling material is the decisive part: what matters here is the quality of the flowers and an even filling.
High-quality prerolls contain whole flowers or cleanly processed flower parts, and not mainly stem or leaf material. This is exactly the point that shows what a product is really worth.
Buy prerolls: what you should really look for
When you buy, a few points make the difference between a good product and a bad one. Transparency comes first. If information on strain and contents is missing, that is a warning sign.
- Clear information: strain, contents and number of pieces should be stated on the product page.
- Flower quality: high-quality prerolls are made from whole or cleanly processed flowers, not from stems and leaves.
- Workmanship and density: a well-rolled preroll is evenly filled, neither too tight nor too loose.
- Paper and filter: unbleached paper and a clean filter are standards that good products meet as a matter of course.
- Value for money: very cheap prerolls are often a sign of low-grade flowers. That is not always true, but it is worth taking a closer look.

How do I store prerolls?
- Storage: prerolls should be stored in a cool, dry place and protected from light. A tin or a tube container protects better than an open drawer.
- Shelf life: with correct storage, prerolls keep for several months. Moisture is the biggest enemy: it promotes mould.
HHZ prerolls and CBD prerolls: the legal status in Germany
HHZ and CBD are two different substances. HHZ is currently listed neither in the German BtMG nor in the annex to the German NpSG (as of August 2026). The legal situation of cannabinoids can change, and the current state of the law always applies. We adjust our range of HHZ products when something changes.
For industrial hemp, the German Consumer Cannabis Act (KCanG Section 1 No. 9) sets a limit of 0.3 % THC. This is information, not legal advice.
What about classic prerolls without cannabinoids?
Some prerolls contain only herbs, tobacco or other plant blends, and therefore no cannabinoids at all. This category is very mixed and depends on the respective brand. Anyone who wants to avoid tobacco should read the list of ingredients carefully: a missing reference to cannabinoids does not automatically mean that no tobacco is included.
